The whole album is dreamy sad-but-hopeful ultimately, imho. He wrote it when his long-term relationship was ending, but there’s no bitterness really, I think. Or what there is, he transforms, and you can see it happening, very lovely thing.

This is my favorite album of all time. So beautiful, calming, depressing….bittersweet.
